essential tools for arranging at home

for the home

Tools don’t need to be a barrier to flower arranging so we’ll cut to the chase. The two tools that can jump-start any floral arrangement are a pair of clippers and a clean vase (or vessel, as we like to call it). Now, just add flowers and water.

Just two things you need to get started.

Good clippers are essential to make clean, healthy cuts to your stems. A sharp knife will also do the trick, but clippers are generally more convenient and efficient. Your local nursery will have clippers at a range of price-points. Our trusted set-up is the Chikamasa T-600, using the Corona Blade Sharpener as needed. (sharpening tutorial coming soon!) This will serve you better than household scissors which are often not sharp enough and will tear up the plant tissue. Not the vibe we’re looking for!

With freshly cut stems, all you need is a place to put them. When it comes to vessels, it is important that it is squeaky clean. Use dish soap and warm water to wash away any bacteria that will clog up your stems. Simply choose anything that will hold flowers and you’re set. Some of our favorites are old jam jars or thrifted vases.

With sharp clippers and a clean vessel, you’re set up to enjoy a long lasting, healthy bouquet. For a thorough kickstart into arranging at home, we get into the details in our six step video tutorial: Arrange a Bouquet with Grocery Store Flowers. Hope to see you there. We are excited for you to grow in confidence with flowers and brighten your life and home.
